MES Barcelona
The Mecanisme per a l’Energia Sostenible de Barcelona (MES Barcelona) is an initiative promoted by the Ajuntamnet de Barcelona to support and accelerate the city’s energy transition by mobilising local private investment into solar energy. The mechanism enables the deployment of photovoltaic systems in buildings across the city, removing the need for upfront investment from building owners.
Under this model, private financiers fully fund the photovoltaic installation, backed by guarantees on the equipment and materials. The investors recover their investment through an energy sales contract, selling the electricity generated to the building owners. At the end of the contract period, the photovoltaic system is transferred to the building owners at zero cost, ensuring long-term benefits and local clean energy generation.

Within the framework of MES Barcelona, Inveniam Group supported the project through technical and financial advisory, focusing on the sizing and technical assessment of photovoltaic installations to evaluate generation potential and feasibility across different building typologies, as well as the design and validation of business models to structure economically viable and scalable solutions for both investors and building owners.
This contribution helped strengthen the robustness of the mechanism and supported its deployment as a scalable tool to expand rooftop solar and local renewable energy generation in Barcelona.
